Until
1928, William M. Murry worked as a carpenter for Wohlsen Construction
but wanted to be a home builder. Only being married a few years,
he wanted to be closer to home and started his Having survived the Great Depression and World War II, when his son, Manny, graduated from high school, the two formed a partnership of Wm. Murry & Son, Inc. As the veterans came home, married and started families, home building flourished and so did their company. Manny soon realized that Lancaster County had great potential and, after the Korean War, bought the farm that today is known as Beverly Estates. As times prospered through the sixties, Manny continued to expand the business by building churches, schools, hospitals and developing land for new residential communities. During the late sixties his son, Bill, began working on jobs drafting new homes and apartments for his dad in the summers. Bill and his grandfather would visit jobs to help out with deliveries from the office to the jobs and back again. That's what gave Bill the "bug" to be in the home building business today. Taking charge of the business in 1976, Bill Murry knows how to run a construction company. Sitting atop a large and successful operation must give him quite a sense of pride and satisfaction, as it certainly should. But perhaps a key insight into the company's continued excellence can be found in what remains Bill's daily motivation. "To know you did a good job," is how he puts it. "That's what makes it all worthwhile." Three generations and 70 years later, Wm. Murry & Son, Inc. continues the tradition started by Bill Murry's grandfather. "The house isn't right until the customer says it is" is the philosophy that has made Wm. Murry & Son, Inc. one of the best builders in the Lancaster area.
